February 27, 2021 - IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM OUR SCOUTMASTER
To all Mackinac Governor's Honor Guard Scouts and Families:
I hope this email finds all of you well and healthy. I wanted to give you an update of what's happening.
All Mackinac Troops are still in a holding pattern for the 2021 season.
Our Troop has put together a letter voicing our concerns about the early cancellation of the season to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission. In addition, the Adult Leadership in the Troop has proposed a set of protocol for the MISPC where Troops could perform their week of duty where safety plans would be in affect for everyone attending. In this plan, life in the Scout Barracks would be very different than in previous years, but it would still allow for the camp to possibly go on for the 2021 season.
Our Troop's Adult Leadership has sent the plan with the new safety protocol to the State of Michigan, and they responded within a week stating that they were going to review our proposal with their Healthy and Safety task force. This is by no means a guarantee that they will agree to the plan or a continuation of the camp, but we are thankful that they are listening to our suggestions and are open to our input. Hopefully, this plan and any other plans that other Troops propose will get the State to consider opening up the Honor Guard Camp again this year.
Please keep checking your email and the website for any new updates. If we get any updates from the State soon, maybe our March meeting may happen.
Keep hope, and cross your fingers, legs, toes, and your eyes if you can. Keep the faith and hopefully our week will be waiting for us.
Yours in Scouting,
Adult Leadership MIHT 168 DUTY. RESPECT. HONOR
